The Department of Physics at the University at Buffalo (UB) is seeking to fill a tenure-track faculty position in experimental condensed matter physics at the level of Assistant Professor.
The successful candidate is expected to build an active research program in the general research area of quantum materials. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in material synthesis and/or advanced characterization techniques applied to quantum materials. The desired characterization techniques include but are not limited to spectroscopy, microscopy, and imaging methods in a broad range of length, time and wavelength scales.
The Department of Physics at UB is entering a period of significant growth: since 2022, four tenure-track faculty members (an experimentalist working in MBE growth of quantum materials, an experimentalist working on novel semiconductors, and experimentalist working on quantum optics and neutron scattering, and a theorist working in quantum information processing/many body physics) have started or will start by the spring of 2024. This current position is part of a multi-year, multi-faculty recruitment effort in quantum science and technology supported by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Office of the Provost and the State of New York.
The Department is a vibrant community with a long tradition and strong commitment to excellence in research, service, and teaching. Research interests within the Department span the traditional disciplines of physics – condensed matter physics, biophysics, high energy physics and cosmology and non-linear dynamics. We benefit greatly from collaborative affiliations with researchers within the College of Arts and Sciences; the Schools of Engineering, Medicine, and Pharmacy; the Centers of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Materials Informatics; and the Center for Computational Research.
