The Nuclear Theory Group at Wayne State University has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow in high energy nuclear theory. The successful candidate will primarily work with Dr. Abhijit Majumder (https://s.wayne.edu/majumder/) and will be a member of the JETSCAPE Collaboration (https://jetscape.org/).

Funding for this position will be provided by Wayne State University via grant funds. Candidates with an interest in perturbative QCD applied to heavy-ion and electron-ion collisions are especially encouraged to apply. A considerable portion of the conducted research will involve the development of simulators for A-A, p-A and e-A physics, and carrying out large scale simulations using the JETSCAPE framework. Familiarity with the JETSCAPE framework and/or knowledge of the C++ programming language will be beneficial.

The successful applicant will become an employee of Wayne State University and receive a competitive salary and benefits package. This position will be in person, and not remote; the successful candidate will have to relocate to the vicinity of Wayne State University. The successful applicant should have completed all requirements for a PhD degree prior to the start of the position, including defense and final submission of their thesis, and must be able to show proof of this before the start day.

Along with their research, the successful candidate is expected to collaborate with and mentor graduate students. Postdoctoral fellows at Wayne State receive ongoing mentorship and various professional development opportunities to help them achieve their full potential and future career goals.

The initial term for the position will be for a period of 1 year, renewable for a 2nd year or further, depending on the availability of grant funding and satisfactory performance. Applicants should submit a cover letter, a CV, a brief research statement and a publication list at the Academic Jobs Online (AJO) page (https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/29637) .

Research statements should not be aspirational. Instead, applicants are encouraged to briefly describe the research carried out in the papers (at most 5) from their publication list, and highlight their roles in the case of multi-author papers. They should also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be submitted at the above AJO site.

Review of applications will commence on March 15th, 2025 and continue until the position is filled.
