Postdoctoral Fellow in Experimental Particle Physics at the University of Michigan
The experimental particle physics group at the University of Michigan invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow position to work on the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and on R&D for a future electron-positron Higgs factory. Our Michigan ATLAS group is deeply committed to the operation, maintenance, and upgrade of the ATLAS muon detector, as well as its performance studies. The group also has a diverse and effective physics program at the LHC, focusing on electroweak physics, Higgs boson studies, and searches for beyond Standard Model physics. Recently, we have initiated several major detector R&D efforts, including a straw tracker and muon detector for the proposed Higgs factory.
The successful candidate has the option to be based in Ann Arbor, Michigan (US) or at CERN (Switzerland) and is expected to work closely with other members of the group to fulfill our commitments to the ATLAS muon detector, lead major physics analysis efforts, and contribute to the R&D for a Higgs factory such as the FCC-ee. Interested applicants should email their curriculum vitae and a statement of research to Professor Jianming Qian (qianj@umich.edu), and arrange for three letters of reference, preferably before March 31, 2025. Applications will be reviewed as they are complete. A PhD or equivalent in experimental particle physics is required.
