Columbia University invites applications for an Associate Research Scientist position in the Columbia Astrophysics Laboratory (CAL), where the successful candidate will join the group of Professor Marcel Agüeros. The object of this project is to examine archival and new X-ray observations made with the XMM-Newton observatory of two open clusters so as to measure coronal activity in stars within these two clusters, and to combine these measurements with rotation period catalogs to examine the dependence of this activity on rotation. The appointment will be initially for one year with the possibility of renewal for up to one additional year, contingent upon the availability of funds and mutual satisfaction. Questions regarding this position can be addressed to Professor Agüeros at m.agueros@columbia.edu.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Benefits included are those associated with benefits for Officers of Research at Columbia University. For detailed information, you can go to https://humanresources.columbia.edu/officersmedical
