The Physical Measurement Laboratory of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) anticipates the need for a Division Chief for its Time and Frequency Division (TFD) (http://www.nist.gov/pml/div688/). The TFD has 47 technical staff, 8 administrative staff, and over 60 students, postdoctoral researchers, visiting scientists, and contractors.  Its technical staff consist primarily of physicists and electrical engineers with doctoral degrees. The division maintains the standard for frequency and time interval for the United States, provides official time to the United States, and carries out a broad program of research and service activities in time and frequency metrology. The principal duties for the division are performed on the NIST Boulder, Colorado campus. The division also maintains radio towers near Ft. Collins, CO and on Kauai, Hawaii for broadcasting standard time and frequency signals.

Interested candidates should have research and management experience, a degree in physics, electrical engineering, or a related technical field, and be a U.S. Citizen. Whether submitting a curriculum vitae or a resume, the candidate must provide sufficient information to clearly articulate their leadership and management capabilities and experience, including personnel and financial management. Individuals should also include a list of publications and a list of talks and presentations covering at least the past 5 years showing research experience. The identified candidate will be hired at the ZP-V (GS-15 equivalent) level.

Depending on the identified candidates professional background they will be hired as a Supervisory Physicist, ZP-1310, Grade V; Supervisory Electrical Engineer, ZP-0850, Grade V;  or a related scientific or technical position. The applicant’s curriculum vitae or resume must provide positive evidence that they have performed highly creative or outstanding research that has led to or could lead to major advances in a physical science or engineering discipline. Applicants must be able to show at least one year of experience equivalent to the ZP-IV (GS-14 equivalent) level. The position requires that the selected individual obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS) Security Clearance. The salary range for the position is presently $163,964 - $191,900 per annum.  The National Institute of Standards and Technology of the Department of Commerce is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
