The Columbia University School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) welcomes applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor rank (without tenure, but on tenure-track) in the broad field of Aerospace Engineering. The appointment will be held in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, with a possible joint appointment in other SEAS departments. Areas of emphasis include, but are not limited to: spacecraft design and engineering, autonomous flight systems, smart/adaptive materials for aerospace systems, generative AI for aerospace systems, remote sensing and communications, hypersonic fluid dynamics and control, advanced and sustainable propulsion systems, extraterrestrial exploration, and life support systems. Aerospace systems of interest range from spacecraft and satellites to commercial transportation, EVTOLS, drones, and novel flight systems. Candidates are additionally encouraged to consider the intersection of their proposed areas of research with departmental and school-wide initiatives relating to energy and sustainability, biomechanics, nano/micro technology, engineering and medicine, and artificial intelligence.
