The Department

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) has around 30+ faculty members, teaching 260+ undergraduate students and 180+ postgraduate research students.  The Department has comprehensive teaching and research programs in both basic and applied aspects in the field of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.  We offer academic degrees of BEng, MSc, MPhil and PhD.   Research activities in the Department are broadly categorized into Solid Mechanics and Dynamics, Materials Science & Technology, Energy / Thermal Fluid and Environment Engineering, Design and Manufacturing, Automation and Robotics, Micro/Nano Systems, and Aerospace Engineering.  Our research activities are supported by multi-disciplinary research facilities, including the Robotics and Energy Institutes, Space Science and Technology Institute, and a world-class Wind Tunnel.  Members of the Department also have access to the University’s state-of-the-art instrumentation at the Materials Characterization and Preparation Facility, Nanosystem Fabrication Facility, Advanced Engineering Materials Facility, Aerodynamics and Acoustics Facility, and Materials Design and Manufacturing Facility.

The Role

Reporting to the Dean of Engineering, the Head of MAE is expected to provide leadership for the Department and manage its diverse academic and administrative functions.

Concurrent with a tenured professorial appointment, the appointment as Head will typically be for an initial term of 3 years and may be renewable for a second term.  Competitive remuneration and generous fringe benefits, including housing where appropriate, will be provided.
