The laser-driven experiments department, ELI-NP, Romania, invites applications for a postdoctoral position in nuclear photonics. The position will start as soon as possible and could be continued until March 2027. It is possible to continue as a staff member afterward (subjected to various conditions) at ELI-NP for excellent candidates.
The successful candidate is expected to play a key role in a project concerning nuclear isomer pumping/depletion using the most powerful laser in the world, currently located in ELI-NP ( https://www.eli-np.ro/ ). However, you will also have the opportunity to interact/collaborate with world-leading experts from a diverse discipline, which includes: nuclear theory, nuclear experiment, laser-plasma theory, laser-plasma experiment, and medical physics. Travel funding for international conferences/workshops/collaborations has been allocated for 3 years (~2000 euros per year, more is possible).
We seek candidates with one or more of the following expertise:
1) Nuclear structure and EM transition calculations for medium and heavy nuclei, mainly by EDF or shell-model-based methods (ab-initio can also be considered if the potential to perform calculations in the aforementioned region is demonstrated).
2) Laser-plasma simulations (preferably via GPU-based PIC codes, or with the ability to add extra modules such as nuclear reactions to existing codes), and/or hydro-simulation for the early stage of laser-plasma processes.
3) High-power laser experiments or detectors for nuclear experiments.
Candidates should either hold a PhD degree or expect to obtain one before the starting date. The working location is Măgurele, Romania. Depending on the qualification, the monthly net salary ranges from 1400-1800 euros after all deductions from taxes and medical/social security contributions. The living cost in Bucharest/Măgurele is considerably lower compared to other major cities in Europe.
Applicants are invited to send the following materials: curriculum vitae (with publication list), and research statement to chieh.jen@eli-np.ro . Please also arrange for at least two (three preferred) reference letters to be sent to chieh.jen@eli-np.ro . The interview will start immediately until the position is filled.
Please don't hesitate to contact Chieh-Jen (Jerry) Yang at chieh.jen@eli-np.ro for further questions/information.
Note: The final hiring process will be handled by the HR department and subjected to it's approval.
