Pay Range

$132,810 - $170,556 Annually

Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.

Job Description

We have an opening for an Engineer specializing in the area of solid state pulsed power. You will be an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team supporting work in the areas of pulsed power, high power microwaves, and power electronics. This position is in the Materials Engineering Division (MED) of the Engineering Directorate.

In this role you will

  • Develop and execute moderately complex to complex designs for pulsed power sources.
  • Perform characterization of semiconductor devices and circuits.
  • Analyze failure modes in pulsed power and high-power microwave systems.
  • Utilize circuit simulation software for design of analog, RF and microwave circuits.
  • Document engineering methods and findings in informal and formal reports and presentations including supporting safety documentation.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, scientists, and technicians to accomplish research goals and to gain a comprehensive understanding of design requirements for electrical systems involving unique, high-powered microwave sources.
  • Organize, analyze, and present data from research.
  • Pursue independent but complementary research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internally and externally to the Laboratory.
  • Publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals and present results at external conferences, seminars and/or technical meetings.
  • Maintain and establish laboratory protocols, including adherence to safety and security protocols.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Bachelors in Electrical Engineering, Applied physics, or related technologies field.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of electrical engineering concepts related to high voltage, radio frequency, and pulsed power.
  • Broad application and experience with semiconductor device physics and design.
  • Broad application and experience with nanosecond pulsed power.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of SPICE or similar circuit simulation software.
  • Ability to learn unique design requirements for electrical systems that involve high voltage.
  • Proficient communication skills with proven ability to present concepts and ideas in a clear and coherent manner, both verbal and written for presentation and interaction with other technical staff members.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Masters or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
