Pay Range

$112,800 - $128,400 Annually

Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.

Job Description

We have an opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher specializing in the area of solid-state pulsed power. You will be an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team supporting work in the areas of pulsed power, high power microwaves, and power electronics. This position is in the Materials Engineering Division (MED) of the Engineering Directorate.

You will

  • Partner with colleagues to gain a comprehensive understanding of design requirements for electrical systems that involve unique, high-powered microwave sources.
  • Develop and execute designs for pulsed power sources.
  • Perform characterization of semiconductor devices and circuits.
  • Analyze failure modes in pulsed power and high-power microwave systems.
  • Utilize circuit simulation software for design of analog, RF and microwave circuits.
  • Document engineering methods and findings in informal and formal reports and presentations including supporting safety documentation.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, scientists, and technicians to accomplish research goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • PhD in electrical engineering, applied physics, or related technologies field.
  • Knowledge of fundamental electrical engineering concepts related to high voltage, radio frequency, and pulsed power.
  • Experience with semiconductor device physics and design.
  • Experience with nanosecond pulsed power.
  • Knowledge of SPICE or similar circuit simulation software.
  • Ability to learn unique design requirements for electrical systems that involve high voltage.
  • Proficient communication skills with proven ability to present concepts and ideas in a clear and coherent manner, both verbal and written for presentation and interaction with other technical staff members.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Position Information

This is a Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years, open to those who have been awarded a PhD at time of hire date.
