Discover TRIUMF, Canada's particle accelerator centre. We are a publicly funded, not-for-profit research lab that is a hub for discovery and innovation.

Our mission is to serve as Canada’s particle accelerator centre.  We advance isotope science and technology, both fundamental and applied.  We collaborate across communities and disciplines, from nuclear and particle physics to the life and material sciences.  We discover and innovate, inspire and educate, creating knowledge and opportunity for all.

TRIUMF's diverse community of nearly 600 multidisciplinary researchers, engineers, technicians, tradespeople, staff, and students create a unique incubator for Canadian excellence, as well as a portal to premier global collaborations.  Fueling innovation and improving lives, we are committed to accelerating discovery and shaping a better world.

Central to the success of TRIUMF are a number of accelerators including two SRF linacs: a SRF QWR heavy ion linac and a SRF 1.3GHz electron linac.

TRIUMF’s RF Department is responsible for maintaining and providing services for all the radio frequency systems of the TRIUMF accelerators. The systems range in frequency from 5 MHz to 1300 MHz and in power from a few watts to hundreds of kilowatts.

The RF Department personnel are also involved in development programs in superconducting rf, high level rf and rf controls both in the support of local infrastructure as well as external collaborative projects. Presently TRIUMF is engaged in the development and production of five crab cavity cryomodules for the Hi-Lumi project at CERN. The TRIUMF SRF group also has active programs of student based research in coaxial cavity development and in SRF materials research using muSR and betaNMR.

Local infrastructure to support the SRF developments includes a clean room, test area with multiple cryostats, HPWR and chemical etching treatment facilities, a rf induction heat treatment furnace as well as an experienced technical support team.

The TRIUMF RF Department has an immediate opening for a post-doctoral fellow who will be primarily responsible for support of the superconducting rf projects and systems. The position is a two-year appointment that provides an excellent opportunity to work in a modern accelerator engineering facility.

The primary duties would include:

  • Support for SRF projects including the Hi-Lumi cryomodule project – cavity receiving and testing, cryomodule assembly and testing
  • Support student activities in fundamental SRF research including cavity processing and
  • testing, equipment design and sample preparation and testing with the local muSR/beta-NMR
  • facilities
  • Support within the rf service group in the operation and maintenance of the TRIUMF SRF systems including the ISAC-II Superconducting Heavy Ion linac and the ARIEL superconducting linac.

Experience in other of the following areas will be considered as definite assets:

  • electro-magnetic modeling capability,
  • cryogenics and cryomodules,
  • high power and low power rf systems

The ideal candidate will have received a PhD within the past 1 to 5 years, preferably in SRF physics and technology.
