We are seeking to appoint an ambitious and dynamic colleague to join our high-achieving Physics department.

You will be a part of an enthusiastic team of subject specialists, known throughout the College for their breadth of experience and extensive knowledge of both their subject and teaching pedagogy. They believe that the key to unlocking Physics is through practical work, and students are inspired day after day, with high numbers opting for Physics in the Sixth Form. The department benefits from a wealth of equipment, which more resembles a university laboratory rather than a typical school, and all students benefit from the hands-on approach that they are provided with. This is reflected in the excellent results achieved by the Department. In 2023, at GCSE, 77% of grades awarded were 7 - 9, and at A Level, 87% of grades were A* - B.

Students also have the opportunity to take part in the Physics Olympiad and go on exciting trips, including a day-trip to CERN and an evening at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich among others. All of these experiences allow our students to see how Physics can be used in the real world and where a qualification in Physics can take them.

The post is suitable for a teacher of Physics who shares the department’s passion for learning and teaching, whether an experienced professional or someone early in their career, who would like the chance to be mentored by a team of exceptional practitioners. The role also includes the teaching of GCSE Chemistry.

Applicants are welcome to visit by appointment prior to application to gain a full understanding of the outstanding nature of this opportunity. Part-time applications will also be considered.

The College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A copy of the College’s Child Protection Policy is available on the website.

Bishop's Stortford College is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children; all employees are subject to a number of pre-employment and safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS check. References and an online search will be undertaken prior to interview. To this end, robust Safeguarding processes and procedures are in place to support families, pupils, staff, and volunteers. In compliance with the sharing of information guidance/best practice, any concerns are passed to designated teachers, trained in Safeguarding.
