Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in science and engineering on behalf of national security. We are seeking an R&D Manager/Group Leader for our Physics of Condensed Matter and Complex Systems Group. In this position, you will oversee the strategic and operational management of the group, developing strategic plans and partnerships, participate in vision and strategy exercises, develop strong partnerships with internal and external organizations, recruit, mentor, and develop outstanding new scientific talent and lead the development of new opportunities to support and maintain a diverse workforce and inclusive work environment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; Ph.D. in materials science, physics or engineering preferred 12+ years of related experience Experience in one or more of the following research areas: Quantum matter, strongly correlated systems, quantum information science, quantum computing, quantum photonics, materials physics, nonequilibrium dynamics, statistical physics or complex systems Demonstrated successful leadership experience, preferably with a scientific or technical team, group or project; experience with DOE Office of Science and/or NNSA preferred Record of effective leadership, including recruiting, mentoring and motivating employees Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills Experience building collaborative relationships across group, division, laboratory and national boundaries preferred Experience proposing, developing and sustaining research programs preferred Active Q Clearance.
